3. Student Visa & Financial Requirements

Student Visa (Subclass 500)

To study full‑time in Australia, you’ll need a Subclass 500 visa. Key steps:

  1. Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)
    • Issued by your university once you accept their offer and pay any required deposit.
  2. Genuine Student (GS) Statement
    • A personal statement outlining your study plans and intent to return home after graduation. This is the most crucial part of any visa application. If you’re unsure of yourself it is best to reach out to an immigration lawyer. We recommend Australian Visa Helper.
  3. Health & Character Checks
    • Medical exam by an approved panel doctor.
    • Police certificates for character clearance.

Proof of Funds

You must show you can cover:

  • Tuition fees (first year or as specified in your CoE)
  • Living costs: In 2024, a single student must demonstrate a total of $29,710, with an additional $10,394 if a partner is included and $4,449 for each child.
  • Travel costs: Return airfare or equivalent funds
  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC):  AUD 600–800 annually

Budgeting tip: Open a dedicated savings account and obtain a bank statement showing at least 3 months of transactions to satisfy “proof of funds.”

4. Pathway & Foundation Programs

If your grades or English scores don’t meet direct-entry criteria, consider a foundation or diploma pathway:

  • Foundation Program:  Academic and English preparation in one package (8–12 months).
  • Diploma in Information Technology:  Equivalent to Year 1 of a Bachelor (8–12 months), then progress into Year 2.

These pathways offer smaller class sizes and extra support, increasing your chance of success.
